As of now the house has passed the Stimulus bill with all GOP members voting against it. It is a 1000 page bill which is suspected that very few of the people voting for it actually read the bill.
The spending is <10% (about 7%) this year (i.e., the pretended stimulus) & 30+% next year. The conference committee reduced the amount of "rebate" to individuals to $400 / 800 from $500 / 1000 (individual / family) & some of the business tax breaks (i.e., the people who hire people / create jobs). And since President Obama said there was no Pork, it must be true (except for every special interest group).
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Albert Einstein.
In United States politics, the term pork barrel refers to the appropriation of government spending for projects that are intended primarily to benefit particular constituents, such as those in marginal seats or campaign contributors.
